As a former veteran, I started this project to honor my grandfather (pictured in his red bomber). I contacted my grandfather and told him that I would fly out Veteran’s Day weekend and photograph the members at his VFW post if they were available. With enthusiasm, they agreed and I made my way out to Ohio to shoot.

Using Profoto strobes and softboxes, I was given approximately 1-2 minutes with each veteran because of time constraints of the day. Meeting each member and gathering a bit of information from their time in service, each veteran usually stayed posed for about 3-4 shots before getting anxious and insecure so making sure each shot counted was essential for this project.

This is an ongoing project in which I hope to include more veterans and servicemembers from the NYPD/FDNY soon.
